The original Sword of the Necromancer game possessed a top-down 2D perspective with pixel art. With this 3D remake, Resurrection incorporates the improved mechanics and systems that are being developed for Revenant.

Players take control of Tama and she wants to resurrect her dead lover, Koko. In order to do so, Tama must tap into the powers of the Sword of the Necromancer as she ventures into the innermost part of the dungeon to gain enough power to bring Koko back to the living. The Sword of the Necromancer has the power to revive defeated monsters and make them fight for Tama.

Grimorio of Games have stated that Resurrection will be released prior to Revenant, despite initially being only a stretch goal, in order to give more development time to Revenant. The last correspondence regarding Revenant was in December 2022 when the planned sequel received a teaser trailer.

Grimorio of Games is pleased to show the announcement trailer for Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection, the 3D remake of the original Sword of the Necromancer, which is coming to PC and consoles at the end of summer 2024. Previously planned as a stretch goal in the sequel’s Kickstarter campaign, this remake will now instead be released prior to Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant to give more time to the latter’s development.

Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection will be a reimagining of the original monster-summoning dungeon crawler game, which featured top-down pixel art graphics. Based on Revenant’s engine, players will be able to relive Tama’s quest to resurrect her lover in 3D, with exciting new ways to battle and renewed mechanics and systems, including the possibility of customizing the summoned monsters’ AI. This remake will also feature remastered high quality illustrations and voice acting (both in English and Japanese) and new scenes to delve deeper in Tama and Koko’s tragic love story.

Beating Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection will also unlock rewards in Revenant once it’s available, like the possibility of summoning the bosses of the remake (shown at the end of the trailer) as special summons. Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection will be released on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series.
