With less than two weeks remaining before the expansion’s debut, Square Enix aired the launch trailer for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, the next major expansion for the long-running MMORPG. Dawntrail is the first new expansion since 2021’s Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, which concluded the saga of Hydaelyn and Zodiark: The overarching story that propelled Final Fantasy XIV‘s events since its now-defunct 2010 “1.0” edition. It will take the Warrior of Light and their friends to new lands and on the first steps to a fresh new adventure.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail Launch Trailer

The trailer showcases dialog and narrative setup from the main story. As outlined in the version 6.55 update, the Warrior of Light and their companions have committed to a visit to the continent of Tural, a vast landmass far to the west of Final Fantasy XIV‘s main continent, and known to Eorzeans as “The New World.” There they’ll be getting involved in a local political affair, their actions potentially determining the fate of Tuliyollal, a major city-state of Tural.

In an accompanying Letter from the Producer Live broadcast, FFXIV Producer Naoki Yoshida showed off detailed previews of some of the new Dawntrail content, including looks at the new explorable zones, characters, gear, cosmetics, and activities. He also previewed more of the graphical upgrade that the game will get upon Dawntrail‘s launch. Dawntrail will bring with it a series of updates to the FFXIV graphical engine that will improve the general appearance of the game, in line with new graphics technologies that debuted in the time since FFXIV first launched. Players on PC can check their machine’s peformance against the new hardware requirements using the Dawntrail PC benchmark.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail launches on July 2, 2024 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Mac. Players that pre-ordered the expansion will gain early access to it on June 28, 2024. Check out James’ detailed preview of Dawntrail based on an early build.
