Here’s How To Report Spam Calls And Messages In India; Step-By-Step Guide

For years, people in India have grappled with the nuisance of spam calls and the threat of fraudsters attempting to swindle money. These incidents not only cause discomfort but also pose serious security risks. However, relief is finally here as the Indian government introduces Chakshu, a dedicated platform for reporting suspected fraudulent communications.

How Does the Chakshu Portal Work?

If you’ve been a victim of spam calls or fraudulent messages within the last 30 days, Chakshu is here to assist you. This platform allows users to report suspicious activities, including calls, SMS, and WhatsApp communications. It’s important to note that while Chakshu handles reporting for spam and fraud incidents, financial fraud or cybercrime cases have a separate reporting mechanism provided by the government.

Reporting Fraud Made Easy

To report an incident, simply visit the Chakshu portal and initiate the complaint process. You’ll be guided through a series of questions and details to fill out, including providing a screenshot of the fraudulent communication.

Medium of Fraud

Select whether the fraud occurred via a call, SMS, or WhatsApp.

Fraud Details

Provide specifics about the nature of the fraud, including categories such as KYC bank-related, sextortion, malicious links, fake customer care helplines, and more. Attach screenshots of the fraudulent communication, along with the date and time of the incident. Additionally, you can provide further details within a 500-character limit.

Personal Information

Share your contact details, including the phone number through which the fraud communication was received.

Once you’ve provided all the necessary information, the portal will prompt you to verify the form with an OTP sent to your registered number. After verification, you can submit the complaint to the relevant government body, contributing to a safer digital environment for all citizens.
