iPhone 16 Pro Max: Biggest Yet With Bold Upgrades In Camera, Battery, And Storage

Apple might add a new high-end tier to its iPhone 17 series in 2025, but this year could bring the boldest “Pro Max” model yet with the iPhone 16. Here are five major changes rumoured for Apple’s biggest smartphone, which is expected to be released around mid-September.

Increased Size

Rumours suggest the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be Apple’s largest iPhone ever, measuring 6.9 inches (up from 6.7 inches). It will be taller and wider than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with a slight increase in weight but the same thickness. This will be the first size increase since the iPhone 12 series, which may disappoint users who prefer smaller phones.

Bigger Screen, Thinner Borders

The iPhone 16 Pro Max will not only have a larger display but also thinner borders. Apple plans to use Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology to make the bezels slimmer, giving users a more immersive viewing experience.

Bigger Battery Capacity

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have batteries with higher energy density for longer battery life. Rumours indicate that it will use stacked battery technology, potentially offering over 30 hours of battery life compared to 29 hours for the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Enhanced Camera

The main camera on the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to be 12% bigger, featuring a 48-megapixel Sony IMX903 sensor for better performance. It will also include a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, up from the 12-megapixel lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, promising improved image quality.

Bigger Storage Capacity

A rumour from Korea claims that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will offer up to 2TB of storage, similar to the iPad Pro. This is possible due to Apple’s switch to Quad-Level Cell (QLC) NAND flash for higher storage models, which allows more storage in a smaller space and at a lower cost than the current Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND.
