Dolby Brings Signature Cinema Experience to India, Starting With City Pride Kharadi in Pune

Dolby has launched its first Dolby Cinema in India at City Pride multiplex in Kharadi, Pune. The state-of-the-art theatre features Dolby Vision with 4K laser projection, Dolby Atmos audio, and a 310-seat auditorium with a curved, immersive screen stretching wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling. It officially opens on Friday with the screening of “Jurassic World Rebirth”. Dolby also plans to introduce five more Dolby Cinemas across India in the near future.

The San Francisco-based audio and imaging tech company has equipped the theatre to showcase both 2D and 3D films, featuring its advanced Dolby Vision dual 4K laser projection system and Dolby Atmos sound technology for an immersive cinematic experience.

Dolby Cinema is known for combining high dynamic range (HDR) visuals with spatial audio to create a premium large-format theatre experience. The Pune auditorium includes a wall-to-wall-to-ceiling curved screen, enhanced acoustic treatment, recliner seating, and minimal ambient light for optimal viewing. The venue opens to the public on Friday with Jurassic World Rebirth as its first screening, and ticket booking is available through BookMyShow. Dolby has also promised exclusive offers and early previews for audiences.

Michael Archer, Dolby’s VP of Worldwide Cinema Sales, called the Pune launch a milestone in the company’s India roadmap. He emphasized the attention to detail in the theatre’s design, aiming to deliver a world-class moviegoing experience. While over 1,000 screens in India already support Dolby Atmos, this is the first to feature Dolby Vision, marking a significant upgrade in visual quality.

He added, “From reservable, spacious seating, with clear sight lines – no matter where you sit, to soft interior lighting and premium details throughout, for an unparalleled movie experience. As we continue to collaborate with leading filmmakers, studios, and exhibitors, we look forward to launching more theaters that will unlock world-class movie experiences for Indian audiences.”

Dolby is not stopping at Pune; the company announced plans to open five more Dolby Cinema screens across India in cities including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Trichy, Kochi, and Uikkal. This expansion highlights Dolby’s commitment to redefining cinema experiences in the country by blending cutting-edge technology with thoughtful theatre design.
