Rumours are circulating that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro series will be fueled by the highly anticipated Apple A18 Pro processor. Despite the September launch date still months away, leaked Geekbench scores have emerged, showcasing a remarkable improvement in both single-core and multi-core performance.
The alleged scores, disclosed by hardware leakster Nguyen Phi Hung, reveal an impressive 3,500 points in the single-core test and 8,200 points in the multi-core test.

A18 Pro vs Its Predecessor and Competitors
In comparison to its predecessor, the A17 Pro that powered the iPhone 15 Pro series, the A18 Pro demonstrates a substantial leap. The A17 Pro scored 2,890 and 7,145 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. Notably, the A18 Pro’s single-core performance even surpasses the Apple M3 chip found in the 14-inch MacBook Pro, which registered a score of 3,170 in the latest Geekbench 6 listing.
Snapdragon 8 Gen4 – FINALLY beating the Apple A18 Pro?!
Geekbench tests have leaked for early for several SoCs, and two of which being the Snapdragon 8 Gen4 and Apple A18 Pro.

As for its potential rival, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, preliminary reports suggest it achieved 2,845 in the single-core test and 10,628 in the multi-core test. While Apple’s A18 Pro excels in single-core performance, the Snapdragon chip appears to outshine multi-core capabilities based on these early scores.
Despite the excitement surrounding these leaks, it’s crucial to exercise caution. The iPhone 16 Pro models are not expected until Q3 2024, and flagship Android phones featuring the rumoured Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip are anticipated even later. Additionally, the authenticity of these benchmark scores remains unverified, as they have not been published on Geekbench’s official website.
Apple’s history of releasing two ‘Pro’ iPhone models with the latest processor, along with two models equipped with the previous year’s chip, prompts speculation about the lineup for the iPhone 16 series. In 2023, the iPhone 15 models featured a 4nm A16 Bionic processor, while the iPhone 15 Pro models boasted the 3nm A17 Pro chip. The question remains whether the iPhone 16 models will adopt a ‘Bionic’ processor, leaving the purported A18 Pro chip exclusively for the Pro model. Only time will reveal Apple’s strategic choice for its next flagship lineup.
