Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia is shutting down after a seven-year run. Square Enix announced that both the Japanese and global editions of the game will shut down on February 29, 2024. All microtransactions in the game have been disabled as of November 28, 2023.

As is typical for live service game closures of this type, the announcement didn’t cite a specific reason for the closure, only saying that Square Enix had come to the conclusion that it would be difficult “to provide satisfying service to customers in the future.” This is typically code for the game no longer being profitable enough to justify the cost of continuing to operate it or develop new content.

Applications for refunds for purchased currency will be opened after the game shuts down on February 29, 2024. Until then, the game will operate as normal, with scheduled events occurring as planned. For the global edition, the ongoing Cactuar Cacophony and Dare to Defy Astraeus events will run until the closure of Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia. Two more Dare to Defy events for Nyx and Eos will kick off in January and February 2024.

Finally, three “Dusk to Dawn” events will run until the game’s end. The Dusk to Dawn ~Evil Gazes at Dusk~ event will run until New Year’s day 2024, where it will transition into January’s Dusk to Dawn ~Ogres Parade the Night” event. In February, the final Dusk to Dawn event, ~Soul Caged by Dawn~ will launch and run until the game closes.

Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia first launched in February 2017 in Japan and January 2018 globally. It was based on the same setting as Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, and involved characters from across the Final Fantasy franchise, including spin-off titles like Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and Final Fantasy Type-0.

Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia shuts down on February 29, 2024. It is currently still downloadable on iOS and Android devices.
