Essential Tips To Prevent AC Fires During Hot Weather And Rising Temperature

As temperatures skyrocket to over 50 degrees Celsius in Delhi-NCR, the reliance on air conditioners (ACs) has surged to combat the scorching heat. However, amidst this heatwave, ensuring the safety of our AC units becomes paramount. A recent incident at the upscale Lotus Boulevard Society in Sector 100, Noida, on May 30 has underscored this urgency. According to reports by Times of India, a fire broke out in a flat, triggered by an explosion in the air conditioner. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining and monitoring AC units to prevent potential hazards during extreme weather conditions.

Things You Must Know About Your AC

An HVAC expert underscores the importance of regular air filter changes to prevent overheating, noting that clogged filters can impede airflow. Following manufacturer recommendations for filter replacement intervals is advised.

The expert also highlights the significance of maintaining the outdoor unit to prevent efficiency loss and overheating. Regularly clearing debris such as leaves and twigs from the condenser coils is essential for optimal performance.

In addition, the expert recommends ensuring proper ventilation around the outdoor unit, with a minimum of two feet of clearance, to facilitate airflow. Moreover, storing flammable materials away from the unit can help reduce fire risks.

To mitigate circuit overloads and reduce fire hazards, experts strongly discourage the use of extension cords with AC units. Instead, they recommend directly plugging the unit into a dedicated outlet.

Additionally, adhering to professional servicing recommendations is crucial. Mr. Sharma suggests regular inspections conducted by qualified technicians to proactively identify and address potential issues before they escalate into hazards.
