The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has pegged the credit potential for Telangana at ₹3.86 lakh crore for 2025-26 as against ₹2.80 lakh crore last year, reflecting a growth of 38 per cent.
The total credit potential estimated for agriculture is ₹1.63 lakh crore for 2025-26 as against ₹1.33 lakh crore last year, showing a growth of 23 per cent. For the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) segment, the bank pegged a credit potential of ₹2.03 lakh crore for the year as against ₹1.29 lakh crore last year, reflecting a growth of 57 per cent.
Addressing a gathering here on Thursday, B Udaya Bhaskar, Chief General Manager of Nabard (Telgnagana), said that the MSME sector comprises 53 per cent of the State’s credit potential, while crop loans and agri term loans contribute 36 per cent.
He said that Telangana was the fastest growing State with a per capita income 1.6 times more than the national average of ₹2.12 lakh.“It made good strides to become a leader in rice production, contributing 12 per cent to the country’s total rice output,” he said.
Releasing the State Focus Paper for 2025-26, Telangana Deputy Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that Telangana was one of the fastest growing States with ₹15.2 lakh crore Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), with a growth rate of 14.5 per cent.
He asked the bankers to strive towards turning the numbers projected into reality for the benefit of our rural communities. He advocated water-efficient farming in the State.
Tummala Nageswara Rao, Minister for Agriculture, asked the bankers not to take harsh decisions while dealing with the loanees. “I heard recently that you (one of the banks) removed the gate of a farmer for not repaying a loan. Can you do the same thing with a big industrial defaulter,” he asked.
“You must treat them with respect. They deserve dignity,” he said, reminding the bankers that the State Government had remitted ₹40,000 crore to clear the loans of farmers,” he said.
He wanted the banks to support efforts build agri storage facilities and processing facilities to help farmers realise increased incomes.
