PhDs And MBAs Are Applying For Peon Post In Rajasthan; Internet Says ‘They Make More Money Than TCS Techie’
For the 53,749 peon posts in various divisions in the Rajasthan Government, over 24 lakh candidates have applied. This implies 46 candidates per post, which also includes applicants who hold such degrees as MBA, LLB, and even PhD! The minimum educational qualification required for peon is 10th pass. Last year for 2,399 forest guard posts, some 22 lakh candidates filed applications. Is this revelatory of a larger issue crippling our education system and employment in Rajasthan and India at large?
Per a TOI report, students who are UPSC aspirants and preparing for other competitive exams, some of whom have been at it since 2018, have applied for the peon posts. Some of the candidates hold a postgraduate degree and a BEd as well. Others are prepping for Rajasthan Civil Services and don’t wanna miss out on a secure government job.
Per reports the volume of applicants crashed the servers, leading to technical difficulties for several candidates who applied for the job. This glitch delayed applications of some candidates who could not submit the forms in the scheduled window.
Per official data, there are 18 lakh youths registered as unemployed in Rajasthan, while unofficially the estimates exceed 30 lakh! Compound it on a national level and we have achhe din right around the alley.

Reactions poured in with netizens taking a jibe at India’s claim of becoming “Vishwaguru,” by harkening, “achhe din,” while rioting over ‘mandir and masjid.” One user quipped, “When you vote on Waqf, Aurangzeb, Holi Jummah, Mandir Masjid.
