Why Was Parag Agrawal Fired From Twitter? Elon Musk Reveals Amid Crackdown On Federal Workers

After causing an upheaval on Twitter (currently X), Elon Musk is now giving a tough time to federal employees of the US government. In a new announcement, Musk said that he has sent an email to all federal workers asking what they accomplished in the past week. He also warned that failing to respond to the email will be taken as a resignation.

Now the billionaire has alleged that Parag Agrawal, the Indian-origin techie, who was appointed as Twitter CEO was fired for lack of productivity. Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, which led to mass resignation and layoffs of employees, including Agarwal. The billionaire claimed on X that “Parag got nothing done. Parag was fired.”

His claim came in response to a post that shared Musk’s diktat to the federal employees. It also featured Agarwal’s message to those saying “Twitter is dying.”

“You are free to tweet- is Twitter dying? or anything else about Twitter- but it’s my responsibility to tell you that it’s not helping me make Twitter better in the current context,” Agarwal had posted. “Next time we speak, I’d like to provide you with perspective on the level of internal distraction and how it is hurting our ability to do work. I hope the AMA will help people get to know you, to understand why you believe in Twitter, and to trust you- and I’d like the company to get to a place where we are more resilient and don’t get distracted, but we aren’t there right now.”

Even then, Musk asked him, “What did you get done this week?”

According to Indian Express, there is significant backlash against Musk’s email as there’s no such established procedure and there’s a lack of clarity. Interestingly, FBI Director Kash Patel has asked his staff to pause their responses to Musk’s email.

However, Musk’s crackdown on federal employees is likely to get worse as US President Donald Trump has asked the former to “get more aggressive.”

Musk is heading the Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE which has been established to reduce government spending and dismantle the bureaucracy. In a recent post on X, Musk justified his stringent move saying, “The reason this matters is that a significant number of people who are supposed to be working for the government are doing so little work that they are not checking their email at all!”

He even claimed, “In some cases, we believe non-existent people or the identities of dead people are being used to collect paychecks. In other words, there is outright fraud.”
