Pixel Phones To Get ‘VIP Contacts’ to Break Through DND Mode: How It Will Work

Google is introducing a new feature called Pixel VIPs that allows users to prioritize key contacts even when their phone is on Do Not Disturb (DND) mode. This means Pixel users will no longer miss important calls or messages while staying focused, as selected VIP contacts can bypass DND restrictions. The feature is designed to give users more control over who can reach them during downtime or work hours.

Originally spotted in a leaked internal test version of a Google app, the Pixel VIPs widget was expected to launch with the upcoming Pixel 10. However, several users have now reported seeing the feature live on their devices, indicating an early rollout via a quiet update through the Play Store. This surprise release suggests Google is keen on improving productivity tools for Pixel users ahead of its next major phone launch.

The new Pixel VIPs widget allows users to pin up to eight key contacts to their home screen, making it easier to stay connected with the people who matter most. These VIP contacts are labeled within the Contacts app and offer at-a-glance access to recent calls or messages from Google Messages or WhatsApp. If location sharing is active, users can even see the real-time location of VIPs via a mini map in the widget itself.

One of the standout capabilities of the Pixel VIPs widget is its ability to bypass Do Not Disturb mode. This ensures that calls or messages from selected VIPs will always trigger notifications, helping users stay reachable to important people—such as family members or critical work contacts—without letting the rest of their phone interrupt them.

Beyond communication, the widget offers smart personalization features. These include requesting location updates from VIPs, viewing their weather and time zone details, jotting down personal notes, and even receiving activity suggestions based on shared preferences. It combines communication and context in a single, home-screen-ready experience.

Pixel VIPs is not a standalone app, so it won’t appear in the app drawer. Instead, users can access it via the widget picker or the Contacts app. The feature is part of the June 2025 Feature Drop and is gradually rolling out to Pixel users through a Play Store update.
